Putting on the finishing touches.

Four habits that extend the life of your Virgin Wool. Washing, odour management, drying and storage determine how long.
Virgin Wool comes from a merino sheep. It's wool from a living sheep, taken from its very first shearing.
The fibres are finer and softer than regular wool. It feels super-soft on the skin, is hypoallergenic and breathable, and the moisture-wicking keeps the body dry all day.
Treated properly it never itches. It's the material you invest in once and wear for many years.

Machine washing makes the knit rough and pilly. Wash by hand in lukewarm water with a gentle wool detergent.
Soak the knit in lukewarm water with a gentle wool detergent. Press the soap gently through the material. Never wring - it stretches the fibres out of shape. Rinse thoroughly until the soap is gone and press excess water out without wringing.

Bacteria die at sub-zero temperatures. Put the knit in a plastic bag in the freezer overnight and the odour disappears without washing.
Bacteria rarely survive below zero. A night in the freezer neutralises the odour without water and detergent wearing on the fibres. Put the knit in a sealed plastic bag so moisture from the freezer doesn't penetrate the material, and leave it 12-24 hours.
Take the bag out and let the knit return to room temperature before opening and folding it. It feels fresh without having been in contact with water.
The method works best on odour from restaurants, smoke and light sweat. Stains and visible dirt still require hand washing.
Hanging to dry pulls the knit out of shape. Lay it flat on a towel and let it air dry.
Place the knit flat on a dry towel so the table or counter doesn't get wet. Smooth it into shape with your hands while damp. Never on a drying rack, never in a tumble dryer. Let it air dry at room temperature, away from direct sun and heat sources.

Gravity stretches the fibres if the knit is hung up. Fold it and place it in a drawer or on a shelf.
The knit should be folded carefully and stored in a drawer or on a shelf. Gently use a lint remover for pills and bumps. Cut loose threads off - never pull them out, as that opens the loop further. Instead, pull the loop through from the inside.
When the knit is hung, gravity stretches the fibres over time and the shape is permanently lost. That applies to shoulders, neckline and length.
Moths are attracted to proteins from worn wardrobes, and their larvae love natural fibres. Lavender sachets or cedar blocks in drawer and closet keep them at bay. Air the knit a few hours outside before long-term storage so surface scents are gone before it goes away.

We'll look at how it behaves and give you the next steps to take home. Half an hour, a cup of coffee.
