Material and Quality
The tie is woven in Italy in 100% silk using the traditional English gauze weave, giro inglese. This is the coarse version, grenadine grossa, where the open structure gives a distinct waffle-like texture. The surface is matte and lively rather than shiny. The open weave breathes, so the tie can be worn all year. Small irregularities in the weave are part of the character of grenadine, not flaws. It is hand-sewn in Como, Italy.
Design and Detail
A dark forest green ground with double white stripes on the diagonal. The stripes are woven into the fabric on the loom, not printed, so the pattern stays calm and clear. Green is a less obvious choice than navy or burgundy, but just as easy to wear. The colour works particularly well with brown and grey.
Construction and Size
A classic 3-fold tie, with the silk folded three times around a 100% wool interlining. The wool gives the tie structure, body and a natural drape without taking anything from the character of the grenadine. Folding, assembly and finishing are done by hand, and the bar tack that reinforces the tie is hand-sewn. On the back sits a keeper loop for the narrow end and a woven House of Vinterberg label. It measures 8 x 148 cm.
Styling
- Wear it with a white or light blue shirt and a brown or grey tweed jacket
- Suits autumn and winter alongside flannel and knitwear
- A pocket square in white or a muted brown ties it together
Care
- Professional dry cleaning only, ideally by a specialist in silk ties
- Untie the knot gently after wearing rather than pulling the narrow end through
- Let the tie rest between wears so the silk and wool interlining can recover their shape
- Store it loosely rolled or hanging, away from direct sunlight and humidity
- Do not iron the silk directly, as it flattens the grenadine texture. Steam any creases gently from a distance
- Avoid water, perfume and other liquids that can mark the silk
